Taking Care of Your Skin
Posted January 18, 2010 3:54 PM

With the temperatures  dropping in this harsh winter season it is important to remember the effects  environmental conditions can have on your skin. Windy, cold weather diminishes  the skin's moisture levels; creating dry, cracked, irritated skin. A great  solution to combating irritated winter skin is Refissa, the newest FDA approved  cream to treat rough skin, fine facial wrinkles, and irregular pigmentation.  Refissa contains a derivative of vitamin A, tretinoin, which works deep at the  skin's cellular level by increasing collagen. Refissa differs from other  tretinoin products in that it contains a more significant amount of emollients,  allowing for greater and deeper moisturizer specifically for sensitive skin.  Another great option to refresh and revitalize winter skin is the Obagi Blue  Peel. The Obagi Blue Peel is unique in that it is tailored to each patient's  specific skin needs and significant improvement in your skin becomes visible  within one week; leaving your skin firmer, clearer, smoother, and healthier.

To kick those winter blues, Gold Coast Plastic Surgery would like to offer you  a FREE Vivite Defining Lip Plumper with the purchase of any Juvederm treatment  before February 14. Vivite is formulated to help stimulate collagen which  defines lip contours; making lips smoother and softer with protection against  environmental stressors. Call the office at (312) 988-9300 or e-mail Jessica@goldcoastplasticsurgery.com to schedule your appointment and receive your FREE Vivite Lip Plumper.

All of us at GCPS are excited to be settled into our new office at 1 East Erie. If you have not been in to see the new place and the great views of the Gold Coast, stop in and say hello! With a new location, there of course are new additions! I am happy to announce that GCPS is now using the latest FDA approved laser resurfacing, Fraxel. I am impressed with the results I have seen in my patients and the effectiveness of Fraxel in resurfacing many different skin types. An added bonus, that is pleasing patients, is the short amount of time the in-office procedure takes. GCPS has also begun carrying Latisse, the only FDA approved treatment to grow longer, thicker, and darker lashes. Patients are receiving astounding results. Give the office a call for more information, or check out the new sections of the website, where we will continually post new additions to GCPS along with the home skincare and makeup lines we carry and highly recommend. It has been nearly three months since the tissue filler Juvederm was introduced into the U.S. cosmetic market.  My experience up to this point has been nothing but positive.  As compared to the other hyaluronic acid tissue fillers, I have found Juvederm to have a much smoother consistency and hence patients have had a lot less ‘lumpiness’ following the injection.   This lumpiness found with the other hyaluronic acid tissue fillers, would last generally one to two weeks following injection and was for the most part not visible but only evident to touch.  Patients have also surprisingly complained of less bruising following the injections.  The smoothness of the Juvederm has also afforded an additional benefit, namely the ability to inject the product in regions of the face that have particularly thin skin i.e. skin in the area of the lower eyelid.  This can certainly be done with other products, but again the smoothness of the product allows for a more reliable result.  As far as the longevity of the product is concerned, only time will tell if the duration of results will be greater then the other leading tissue fillers.  I will keep you posted in the coming months.

Question:  My nose is a family identifying trait and I wanted to know if it is possible when performing a rhinoplasty  to narrow the width of the nose without making the nose smaller in size and getting rid of the hump on my nose?

This is an excellent question and the short answer to the question is Yes.  Today it is not uncommon for people to want to keep many of the features of their nose while changing others.  For instance, a person may want to keep the slight hump on their nose seen in profile but at the same decrease the width of the nose surrounding the hump.  This is a request seen when people are trying to keep some identifying characteristics of their nose, such as the hump.  The hump on their nose is a ‘family heirloom’ (ha ha) or simply put is their mother’s nose and they want to keep that characteristic.  Your request reflects the trend that is being seen in cosmetics today: Ethnic looking noses are for lack of a better phrase ‘IN’.  This can be easily seen by simply looking at many top models that have less than the ‘aesthetically perfect’ nose.

Happy Holidays! I just wanted to say hello. I was wondering if I could get a little information on Dr. Moynihan. What surgeries does he like doing the best? What surgeries are his best results usually seen? He only has a few facelift B&A's..but they are VERY VERY subtle. I like that. I'm a new 35 and would like a lift...a tummy tuck, a possible *** lift and for sure implants. I also need a second revision on my nose. I had a bad rhino done a little less than 2 years ago, and a semi successful revision was done in Oct 2005 (be a different docm ofcourse..) I already chose my second revison doc..just need the $30,000. OUCH! Please share with me any info on this doc. Thank you!

Lip Repair

During college I was involved in an incident where I was blindsided in the face by an empty beer pitcher.  I fell off the bar into the dishwasher behind the bar.  I sustained a severe laceration to my upper lip which has never quite healed properly.  What are my options and/or your recommendations on what can be done for me?

If I choice to get a nose job, is there some kind of visual simulation I can see prior to the surgery that will show me what the results will look like?  How accurate are those images?  Thank you for the information in advance.
