By slee8898

What is the recovery period for blepharoplasty?  What strategies are there in managing swelling and discoloration immediately after surgery?  Has anyone out there had it?  How much pain is associated with it?

Blepharoplasty (eyelid Surgery) is generally not painful.  Patients will complain of some discomfort and the sensation their eyes are tired but not pain.

Patients will have to maintain a low impact lifestyle for two weeks.  After two weeks they may resume normal activity.  Sutures are removed at the end of one week.

Swelling and bruising vary from patient to patient but there are preop and postop routines to help minimize their occurence.  Preop patient are placed on supplements to help prevent bruising.  In addition, preoperatively the patients medications are reviewed including vitamins and those that increase bruising are stopped.
Postoperatively The patients are placed on meds to help speed the resolution of swelling and bruising.  They are also instructed to sleep withtheir heads elevated to decrease swelling and keep activity to a minimum to reduce bruising.
